Queenstown Winter Festival

So what's it all about?

The Queenstown Winter Festival is in its ‘naughty forties' and just getting better and better.

In 1975 a bunch of locals decided that the start of winter was the perfect excuse to party. They organised lots of different events and activities that involved the whole community from young to old all of which made the Festival a great success. News spread very quickly around New Zealand that Queenstown was the place to be and the very next year people came from far and wide to be part of the excitement - well the event never looked back and has become a highlight of the regions and indeed New Zealand's winter season.

When is it all happening?

Mark the 22nd to 25th of June 2017 down in your calendars. Talk to us about a touring package to not only take in all of the Festival fun but to also make the most of the stunning surrounding regions while you're in town. It's one of the best times to be in the Queenstown region.

It's a ten day epic event showcasing the regions fantastic culture, community and extraordinary surroundings with concerts, street parties, fireworks, comedy, family fun, and plenty of snow craziness.

What activities are there?

There is so much packed into the 10 days of the festival that it would be hard to list them all here. There's everything one could ever wish for on offer from mountain bike snow races to the infamous mountain mayhem races, from art and craft markets to street parades, from night skiing to fireworks, from the birdman competition to the Undy 500 - there's so much going on it can be hard to know where to start.

Never been to Queenstown before?

Well you need to! It's set in a spectacular landscape on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and surrounded by mountains and it's easy to see why it's a favourite destination for visitors to New Zealand. You've probably heard that Queenstown is known as the Adventure Capital of New Zealand and this title applies to both on and off snow activities.  There is so much to enjoy including four of New Zealand's premier ski fields!

When you're not hitting the slopes there are an endless range of activities to keep you entertained as well as fantastic selection of cafes, bars, restaurants and great shopping.   With four ski fields located within a 25 to 90 minute drive as well there is plenty to excite and challenge beginners all the way through to experts.

We reckon the best way to experience Queenstown and the surrounding region (our home town of Wanaka included!) is to have a car for some of the time and explore it at your pace. There are some extraordinary sights, activities and places to stay on offer and now you are planning on being here it's a great opportunity to experience as many of them as possible. Talk to us about your holiday and we can help plan the perfect itinerary.
