Skiing in New Zealand is getting even better for 2017!

Three New Zealand ski fields are receiving significant upgrades to their facilities ahead of the 2017 winter ski season. Cardrona, Treble Cone and The Remarkables are pulling out all the stops to ensure that this coming winter will be unforgettable!

Cardrona ski resort is progressing in a big way with multiple upgrades happening across the resort. The biggest improvement comes in the form of New Zealand’s first ever Chondola! The new cabin style ski lift will have the capacity to uplift 2550 people per hour to the top of the mountain, utilising a combination of fully enclosed cabins and open chairs.

As well as the brand-new McDougall’s Express Chondola, you can also expect improvements to the Snow Kindy and Kids Snow Sports School and expansions for the Valley View and Pine Tree car parks. In addition, guests will also be able to try out The Lounge, a new café/bar which will sport a ski in/ski out deck to keep the snow fun going as far as possible.

Not to be outdone, The Remarkables, one of NZSki’s trio of mountain resorts, will also be making further upgrades following on from the recent addition of their brand new, state-of-the-art base building. One for the newbies, The Remarkables will have a new, fully insulated double conveyor to transport the guests up the learner’s slope in comfort and style. Another first for New Zealand, the 123-metre-long double conveyor will be ready and waiting for its first guests on the resorts scheduled June 10 opening!

To assist in continuing guest comfort and safety, the access road up to The Remarkables base building will sport another 5.5 kilometres of new seal, with the new road giving guests a smooth, safe ride all the way up to the 4 kilometre mark.

NZSki’s second Queenstown mountain, Coronet Peak, will be implementing mid-week night skiing for the month of July, in addition to the regular Fridays and Saturdays. That’s three nights a week for the whole month to get those extra evening runs in. New terrain on the mountain has also been opened near the Meadows Express Chair for the creation of a new kids’ fun zone, the perfect place to head with the whole family with tunnels, banked turns and more!

Treble Cone is a favourite destination among locals and international snow sports enthusiasts alike, 2017 will see some big improvements to the snow making facilities at the ski resort. Having faced difficulties remaining open in poor snow years, Treble Cone is hoping to say goodbye to late opening and early closing dates with the installation of their brand-new snowmaking system.

The new system will service Easy Rider from the top to the bottom of Home Basin, as well as providing extra snow coverage for Main Street. With the potential to allow Treble Cone to stay open right through the season regardless of snowfall, this could be a game-changer for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts!
